Trader Joe's Totes: Real vs. Fake
Counterfeit "Trader Joe's" totes are all over resale. Here's how to tell a genuine one from a knockoff — the written guide the TikToks never leave behind.
- Stitching. Genuine totes have clean, even, tight stitching with no loose threads or skipped stitches. Fakes often show sloppy, uneven, or fraying seams.
- Canvas weight & feel. The real canvas is a sturdy, substantial cotton — not thin, flimsy, or shiny. A too-light or plasticky feel is a red flag.
- Print & color. Authentic prints are crisp and the colors match the official drop. Blurry edges, off-shade colors, or a colorway that was never released = fake.
- The text & registration mark. Check the printed wording and any ® / ™ registration marks against official photos of that exact drop — counterfeiters frequently get spacing, font, or the mark wrong.
- Handles & hardware. Handle length, attachment, and any hardware should look factory-clean and symmetric. Crooked or weakly attached handles signal a knockoff.
- The colorway actually existed. The simplest test: was that color/print part of a real Trader Joe's drop? Cross-check our drop tracker — if the colorway was never released, it's not authentic.
The fastest test: confirm the colorway/print was part of a real drop. If you can't find it on our drop tracker, treat it as fake until proven otherwise.
